A total of 19 strikes bulged the back in the opening round, with Hamilton Olympic moving to the top of the league following their 4-1 home thumping of Toronto Awaba.

 

Chris Berlin, John Majurovski, Ben Hughes and Keegan Wolfenden all scored for the home side, with Blake Glennie netting the sole goal for the visiting Stags.

 

Valentine Phoenix also started the year in comprehensive fashion when they disposed of South Cardiff 4-2.

 

Despite going two up through a Jamie Subat double, South Cardiff were soundly beaten in the end with Mitchell Bath, Scott Smith and a Clayton Poole brace securing the win for Phoenix.

 

Weston Workers Bears FC slipped up at home to a youthful West Wallsend outfit despite having taken a one goal lead to the break courtesy of a headed goal from classy marksman Rhys Tippett.

 

A Jacob Bailey brace for West Wallsend sent the Bluebells to the lead during the second stanza, with Robert Gorseki wrapping up the points from the penalty spot late into stoppage time.

 

In what was considered to be the match of the round, Friday nights postponed fixture between Edgeworth Eagles and Broadmeadow Magic ended in a 2-2 stalemate.

 

Edgeworth twice took the lead through Sean Babic and Pat Wheeler, however strikes from Newcastle Jets Youth duo Adrian Karakolevski and Ben Martin resulted in the spoils being shared.

 

At the end of the opening round there are three players atop the goal scoring charts with Jamie Subat, Jacob Bailey and Clayton Poole all getting their individual seasons off to a flyer.
