Round 14 of the Northern NSW State League saw South Cardiff continue its impressive tilt for a semi-final finish, whilst Edgeworth Eagles stellar unbeaten run finally came to end.
Away to Weston Workers Bears FC, South Cardiff got the better of their hosts 2-1 to remain hot on the heels of Hamilton Olympic for fourth place.
The Bears, on the other hand, now look well and truly out of the reckoning for finals football, the side slumping to their eighth defeat of what's been an underachieving campaign.
Goals to Daniel Johnson and Gavin Vitullo gave the Gunners a comfortable two goal cushion before Rhys Tippett netted a second half consolation for the home side.
Elsewhere, Valentine Phoenix finally brought the curtain down on Edgeworth Eagles unbeaten run in season 2009 with a 2-0 away win at Jack McLaughlan Oval.
Phoenix's victory means the race for the minor premiership should go down to the wire, as a solitary point now separates the two clubs atop the State League ladder.
Scott Smith and Dave Hodgson scored the goals for the visitors as Phoenix dealt a psychological blow to their opponents before the finals series.
In Sunday's other match Hamilton Olympic beat West Wallsend 1-0 at Darling Street Oval to ward off challengers for their semi-final place for another week.
With the match headed towards a stalemate, Chris Berlin's header proved the difference between the two sides when he powered home a Murray Fletcher cross late in the game.
Saturday's lone fixture saw Broadmeadow Magic return to the winners list courtesy of a 5-2 away thumping of Toronto Awaba.
Toronto took the lead through Blake Glennie, however doubles to Brad Waters and Ben Martin and goal to Chris Wheeler were enough to see Magic take control of the match before Troy Halpin struck a late consolation.
