Round 15 of the Northern NSW State League saw South Cardiff continue its semi-final march, whilst Weston Workers Bears FC's playoff hopes now look dashed.
At Cahill Oval, it was South Cardiff who got the better of hosts Valentine Phoenix 1-0 to remain on the cusp of the top four and stretch their winning run to five.
Brenton Olzomer netted for the leagues form side, as Phoenix slipped up just a week after inflicting the first defeat of the season on league leaders Edgeworth Eagles.
Luckily for Valentine, Edgeworth failed to capitalise on their loss when they only manage a 1-1 home draw with third placed Broadmeadow Magic at Jack McLaughlan Oval.
Magic took the lead through Chris Wheeler, before Ryan Clarke salvaged a point for the home side with a second half goal.
Elsewhere, West Wallsend crushed any realistic hopes Weston Workers Bears FC had of featuring in the semi-final series when they defeated the home side 2-1 at Thomas and Coffey Park.
All three goals were scored in the second half, with Robert Gorsevski and Todd McManus giving the Bluebells an insurmountable lead before Michael Ryan scored a consolation for the Bears.
Finally, Hamilton Olympic maintained their four status for at least another week with a 2-1 win over rock bottom Toronto Awaba at Darling Street Oval.
Murray Fletcher bagged a brace for the home team whilst Bren Hammel hit the back of the net for the visiting Stags.
Northern NSW State League ladder:
Edgeworth FC 29
Valentine Phoenix 27
Broadmeadow Magic 24
Hamilton Olympic FC 21
South Cardiff FC 21
