Indeed, both the Eagles and Phoenix finished on 44 points, and both had a goal difference of +16, but Edgeworth was handed the title for more goals scored.

In the last round of the year Edgeworth kept their unbeaten run at home in tact by cruising past Weston Workers Bears FC 3-0.

Sean Babic (2) and Ryan Clarke scored the all important goals for the Eagles as the minor gong headed back to Jack McLaughlin Oval for the first time since 2006.

Valentine also won on the final day but couldn't manage enough goals in a sterner test away to Hamilton Olympic.

The 2-1 win can largely be credited to Nathan Goncalves, who scored a double, to render a John Majurovski reply a mere consolation.

In other fixtures Broadmeadow Magic secured their place in the top four with a 3-0 away victory over South Cardiff.

Ben Martin, Scott Pettit and Simon Mooney netted for the visitors as they crushed the Gunners own semi-final dreams.

In the only dead rubber of the weekend Toronto Awaba secured only their second win of the year away to West Wallsend.

Blake Glennie scored both goals for the Stags as they added a bright spot to an otherwise dismal season.

This weekend first placed Edgeworth takes on fourth placed Hamilton whilst second placed Valentine face third placed Broadmeadow in the first of the two legged semi-final ties.

The winners of the two ties meet in the State League final.
