Only Weston Workers Bears FC's Thomas and Coffey Park was deemed fit by the federation to hold matches, meaning the Bears' Saturday game against Valentine Phoenix was the sole action available to state league fans.

Indeed, it was Valentine who came away victorious from "Bear Park", claiming a 2-1 victory which sees them (at least temporarily) draw level with Broadmeadow Magic at the top of the table.

The Bears started the game without the competitions leading scorer, Rhys Tippett, who was out injured, yet still managed to take a first half lead courtesy of Robbie Turnbull.

An injury to Jason Cowburn and the sending off of Michael Holt for dissent midway through the second half took its toll on Weston though, with Phoenix netting twice in the second stanza to earn a deserved victory.

Matt Pratt levelled the game for Valentine ten minutes after the half time interval, with David Hodgson scoring what would prove to be the winner for Phoenix in the 71st minute.
