Hamilton Olympic will meet Valentine Phoenix in the Northern NSW State League grand final this Sunday, following a 5-1 aggregate victory over minor premiers Edgeworth Eagles.
Despite finishing the year top-of-the-table, Edgeworth were upset in the first leg by Olympic 3-0, and yesterday we're beaten 2-1 at home in their first loss at Jack McLaughlan Oval all season.
Peter Juchniewicz opened the scoring for the visitors before Josh Birch gave Hamilton a virtually unassailable 5-0 lead early into the second half.
Whilst Cameron Hughes did manage a 71st minute consolation for the home team, however Edgeworth couldn't produce the herculean effort required to overturn the mammoth deficit.
Valentine secured their passage to the final day of the season with a much tighter 3-2 aggregate win over 2008 premiers Broadmeadow Magic at Cahill Oval.
Shane Paul scored the all important goal that sent Phoenix to the premiership game, giving his team a 1-0 triumph on the day.
Former A-League star and 2010 Valentine recruit Andre Gumprecht was in the stands and invited back into the change rooms after fulltime, as Phoenix celebrated the result.
Meanwhile, Maitland Magpies secured the Northern NSW First Division title on Sunday, seeing off Azzurri FC 1-0.
Mitchell Roe scored the winner for the Magpies just after halftime, ensuring his side reversed their grand final loss at the hands of Adamstown Rosebud last campaign.
With no promotion or relegation between the two leagues this season, Maitland will be hoping they can continue their strong form for another year, perhaps moving back into the top league in 2011.
