SOCCEROOS goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer could join Australian teammate Scott McDonald and possibly even Harry Kewell at a new-look Celtic next season.
The hero of Wednesday’s goalless draw in China has been linked with a move to the Scottish champions by an English newspaper today.
The experienced custodian has yet to agree a new deal at current club Middlesbrough when his current deal runs out at the end of the season.
Now the UK's Daily Mirror says Schwarzer is Gordon Strachan’s number one choice to replace current stopper Artur Boruc.
Harry Kewell was also linked to a move to the Scottish Premier League side club last week as speculation grows over the legendary injury-prone winger's future when his contract runs out at Liverpool in June.
Schwarzer, 35, joined Boro from Bradford City for around $3m in 1997 and is now the longest serving overseas star in the Premier League.
He has made more than 350 appearances for the Teesiders but it is thought the club may be reluctant to offer him more than a 12 month deal at this stage which has proved an impossible stumbling block in negotiations.
Schwarzer, who saved a last-gasp penalty in Kunming to preserve a point, is determined to play in the next World Cup and a switch to Celtic would offer him the extra challenge of Champions League football.
