SYDNEY FC have been hit square between the eyes by another A-League match review panel outcome, with assistant coach Zeljko Kalac copping a three-match ban for abusing a referee.
With the Sky Blues requesting an explanation into the odd timing of a three-match ban handed to Joel Griffiths - along with how the ban came to be reported - the A-League's MRP has moved to suspend the former goalkeeper for three matches after he was sent from the technical area during their 2-2 draw with Newcastle Jets on Saturday.
Midfielder Terry McFlynn was also handed a regulation one-match ban after he was dismissed late on against the Jets.
But it was the ban handed to Kalac that was most intriguing - especially given the nature of it, referee abuse, was the same reason Griffiths got banned.
Also, Kalac received a mandatory ban for his initial dismissal from the field, plus an extra two games on top of that.
Sydney can appeal the additional two-match ban, and must respond to the MRP before midday Tuesday.
However, Kalac will definitely miss the home clash against champions Brisbane Roar on Sunday.
