The Wolves tested pre-season favourites for the title, Bonnyrigg White Eagles, in the opening round, going down 2-1 in a tightly contested encounter away from home.

Coach Trevor Morgan was pleased with his players efforts against the White Eagles, and pointed out some poor decision making at crucial times as the side's downfall - an aspect of their game that will be closely monitored during the week in the build-up to Saturday.

The visiting Stallions were buzzing after their first up win against West Sydney Berries, courtesy of a fine Aleksander Canak strike. The Stallions pre-season has been a troubled one with the late departure of inspirational captain Nahuel Arrarte, and the late showing of the club's two new African imports. Despite the smaller playing roster, and the late arrivals of these players, the side showed that the fighting spirit of the 2009 group is still very much alive as the Stallions will head down to face the Wolves with the three-points their only focus.

At Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday evening, arguably the match of the round will take place between two sides that have a rivalry that stretches back to the NSL days. Sydney Olympic, who is aiming to bring back the Blues' glory days following a very lean spell in recent seasons, faces defending Premiers Sydney United.

The Blues started slowly against Sutherland Sharks in Round 1, though overpowered the team from Seymour Shaw with a strong display out of midfield. Matthew Mayora and Chris Triantis teamed up well to find the Blues two goals, meanwhile Zaim Zanelli deputised well in goal, following the retirement of former Socceroo Mark Bosnich.

Sydney United was relentless against Rockdale City Suns in round 1 action, and player/coach David Zdrilic will be keen to get more of the same from his charges against Sydney Olympic. Elsid Barkhousir stole the show with his personal hat-trick against the Reds, though equally pleasing signs for Zdrilic came out of midfield with the fine interplay between new signings Steve Hayes, Shane Lyons and Peter Zorbas alongside Ivo Bosnar; For Zorbas though, a question mark surrounds his presence on Saturday after he was forced to leave the field midway through the first-half with a groin strain. Zorbas, will be eager to be ready for Saturday to face his former club side at Belmore.

At Bonnyrigg Sports Ground, the White Eagles will be eager to unleash burly striker Brad Boardman amongst the goals when A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers come to town. The White Eagles did it tough against the Wolves in round 1, playing a large spell of the match with 10-men, and overturning a one-goal deficit in the process. Bonnyrigg will be without captain Paul Cotte, though will certainly pose the visitors with a number of headaches further up the field with the presence of Boardman and Daniel Severino; the latter, making a name for himself as the Premier League's 'dead ball' specialist with his wicked free-kicks causing grief for all opposing goalkeepers.

The Tigers fought gallantly against Blacktown City FC in the opening round, though lacked the composure in the final third to take anything from their opening round clash at Lily Homes Stadium.  Once again, the experience and composure of Nick Rizzo out of midfield will be telling, as will strikers Franco Parisi and Robert Younis - pending on the supply the front-pairing receive.

A tough match no doubt for the visitors against one of the better prepared teams following pre-season.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rockdale City Suns side plays its first official match at the new venue at Bicentenial Park South, in what is a local derby between the Suns and Bankstown City.

The Suns were outplayed by Sydney United in round 1, and cannot present their opponents with the same defensive lapses this weekend.

Pece Apolevski will again be vital down the right-flank, as will the strength of Sam Awad and fine skill of Daniel Pejovski in the attacking third.

The visiting Lions were disappointed to twice relinquish the lead against Manly United FC last weekend to take only a point from their home match. Robbie Mileski and Hussein Salameh showed their worth in the attacking third, though concerns do surround the poor covering offered by the defence to goalkeeper Zlatko Joseski. A much tighter display in the defensive third will be required by the Lions if the side is to record its first win of the campaign in a match for bragging rights between the Suns and Lions on Sunday.

Manly United FC plays host to Blacktown City on Sunday evening at Cromer Park with Phil Moss' men arguably in a good state of mind following a strong display away to Bankstown. Manly United fought to draw level twice against the Lions - despite playing the final 30' minutes with 10-men, and very nearly left Jensen Park with maximum points. Another positive for Moss is the return to the playing field for striker Robbie Cattanach. Cattanach played for the Grade-20 side last weekend, and scored in Manly United's 2-1 defeat of Bankstown City. The former Gold Medal winner will be a welcome addition to the first squad in the coming weeks.

Blacktown City looked the goods when they cleverly administered their one-goal lead against A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers last weekend. Aytek Genc has cleverly assembled a strong, experienced, side with a good mix of young boys in the group. Luke Roodenburg and Mirko Jurlj made positive returns to the club, and it will be these experienced heads that Genc will call upon for this tricky trip to Cromer Park on Sunday.

In the final match of the round, both West Sydney Berries and Sutherland Sharks will be out for points after both teams recorded losses in round 1.

The Berries played within themselves for large spells against the Stallions, and perhaps didn't reach the levels produced in pre-season, though much is still expected of John Calleja's players this season.

The defending Champions  were a little unlucky at times against Sydney Olympic in round 1 as a number of missed chances in the first-half really proved to be the side's undoing. Further concerns surround the fitness of influential captain George Souris who was forced to leave the field early in the opening half with a back injury, though the midfield machine powered by Nick Stavroulakis and Neil Jablonski is expected to be firing on Sunday.
