Hans Meyer has led the perennial strugglers to a remarkable season, with Nurnberg currently fifth in the Bundesliga with five games of the season remaining.

Hopes of landing a UEFA Cup berth are high at the club, and they can maintain one of their chances of qualification by knocking Frankfurt out of the cup this week.

They can look to an historic 4-2 semi-final win over Frankfurt in 1962 for inspiration, a result that propelled them to victory in the final against Dusseldorf.

This year, a win over Frankfurt would see them face either Wolfsburg or Stuttgart in the final in Berlin next month.

They clash at the VW-Arena on Wednesday, with Stuttgart still on course for a league and cup double.

Armin Veh's side face a crucial week, with their outing in Wolfsburg followed by the visit of Bayern Munich to the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium in the Bundesliga.

Wins in both fixtures would keep them on course for their first cup triumph since 1997 and first Bundesliga crown since 1992.

"We can still win the cup and become German champions, and it would be a dream for me to leave here with two titles," said Stuttgart keeper Timo Hildebrand.
