Oar was one of four Socceroos on show today in Sydney as Verbeek named a large squad of players for the upcoming World Cup.

Being just 18, Oar was the centre of media attention but the Utrecht player is not getting carried away with all the focus on him and played down expectations he'd be on the plane to Joburg.

"I guess things can also turn around just as quickly. You've just got to keep working hard on the pitch," the exciting winger told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"I've worked very hard over the last few years and things have gone very quickly for me. But two years ago, I never dreamt of being in this situation now."

Oar added his selection in the final squad is "still a fair way off".

Two years ago, a fresh-faced Oar was one of the youngest players named in FourFourTwo magazine's Ten Best Players Outside The A-League feature.

And he's delivered on his promise big time. After moving from the Queensland State League to Brisbane Roar and now a potential World Cup Socceroo, Oar has enjoyed a supersonic rise.

"I guess it's still new to me but I enjoy doing this [media] sort of stuff," he said. "I'm feeling a lot more comfortable than I was feeling doing this a few months ago because I've done a fair bit of it.

"I guess it's just part and parcel of playing football I guess."

Former Brisbane Roar flyer Oar only found out yesterday that he'd been named, so hasn't had time to console teammate Michael Zullo's failure to be selected.

Zullo wasn't named in the 31-man squad but as an attacking fullback remains an option for the next World Cup campaign.

"I haven't had a chance to talk to many people about it [selection]. But Zulls is a good player and he's available for the next few World Cups," said Oar.

"He's a great player and hopefully at Utrecht he learns a lot over the next few years and he'll be ready for Brazil 2014.

Oar moves to Utrecht full-time next month depending on his Socceroo selection for the World Cup. Either way, he goes into camp with the Socceroos tomorrow ahead of the New Zealand friendly on May 24.

He added: "It took a while to get used to the weather I guess but it was fun, I enjoyed it a lot and I'm looking forward to moving there.

"A lot will depend on how I perform in pre-season. And how I train when I get there but to be honest, I have no idea what my place will be in the team. I've just got to work hard."
