Adelaide United super-sub Mark Ochieng admits his brilliant finish for his 87th minute winner “came out of nowhere”.
The 20-year-old Kenya-born talent came off the bench on 82 minutes, to score the decisive goal moments later, with almost his first touch.
In just his third game of his professional career, Ochieng broke forward to run onto to Sergi Guardiola’s first-time ball before a cool finish to secure a 2-1 win over Melbourne City on Coopers Stadium on Thursday night.
“The ball was just in front of me, I was just happy to get on it,” Ochieng told Fox Sports.
“It was a good first touch and the finish came out of nowhere. I’ll take it.”
The AIS product, who moved from Kenya to Adelaide as a nine-year-old, said finishing chances didn’t come naturally.
“Definitely, me not being a striker, naturally a right-back,” Ochieng said.
“I was just in front of goal, I thought I’d put it to the right and it worked out, I’m happy.”
The appearance was only Ochieng’s second of the 2016/17 season and first in almost two months, but likely to bring more.
“It’s an unbelievable experience,” he said.
“I was happy to get a few minutes and I was happy to get a goal.”
