Tony Popovic has been axed by Karabukspor just two months into his stint with the struggling Turkish outfit.
Club president, Ziya Unsal, told AA that Popovic and the club had already parted ways after a troubled period.
"We have economical studies and there are things that need to be improved from the point of view of sport,” CNN Turk reported.
According to Turkish media the former Western Sydney Wanderers coach is in line for a A$1.4 million compensation payout.
The end of his short reign puts the AFC Champions League title-winning coach in the frame for the vacant Socceroos post ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
Karabukspor proved a tough assignment for Popovic, with the club sitting at the bottom of the ladder and knocked out of the Turkish Cup after eight-straight losses.
He managed just one win since joining the club, his stint made even more difficult after the club’s board and chairman walked out last month.
At the time, the Australian was left stunned by the departures.
“That was one of the shocks we didn’t expect,” Popovic told TRT World.
“We won the first game here, even though we defended for the whole game with 10 men but we ground out a 1-0 win.
“Four days later we heard the president was leaving, the board was leaving, the sporting director was leaving and basically we were on our own.”
