Melbourne Victory striker Besart Berisha could face sanctions following a push on fourth official Daniel Elder in a heated 2-2 draw with Adelaide United on Friday night.
Elder was trying to stop tensions bubbling over at Adelaide Oval, and moved the mercurial striker from the fracas when Berisha turned and shoved him away.
Now the independent Match Review Panel says last season’s joint Golden Boot winner has a case to answer for the offence of “unsporting conduct toward a match official”.
It was thought the Victory frontman might escape further sanction after receiving a yellow for the sideline clash with Adelaide’s Jordan Elsey which sparked the controversy in the 45th minute .
The MRP has issued a Disciplinary Notice to Berisha and referred the incident to the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for hearing as to whether the offence was committed, and if so, what sanction should be imposed.
