PARMA and Catania city officials have defended their decisions to ban both Internazionale and Roma supporters from attending their season-ending games at Parma and Catania this weekend.
The committees for security and public order in both cities have decided both games are too high risk to allow visiting fans to attend.
"I had no doubt of the correctness of the Parma and Inter fans," said Parma official Paolo Scarpis. "But I have issued a decree to close down the visiting section of the (Ennio Tardini) stadium (16,000 seating capacity) to the Inter ultra fans and to hand those seats instead to schools.
"The information from the Roma chief of police of the eventuality that Roma fans could arrive in Parma has increased the possibility of danger. It is the duty of an official to avoid any injury or damage to the city.
"I hope that Sunday will be a sporting celebration regardless of the result."
Inter need to win the match to guarantee their third straight scudetto as they hold a one-point advantage over second-placed Roma, while Parma must also win and hope that the Giallorossi beat Catania to avoid relegation.
"I am saddened from a sporting side by having to adopt this decision," admitted Catania official Giovanni Finazzo.
"But it was inevitable for obvious security problems and hence we must accept it."
