The 34-year-old, who has been without a club since leaving Qatar SC, will once again work under Phil Brown, who was the assistant manager at Bolton, where he had a successful four-year spell before leaving last year.

After his side went down 2-1 at Blackpool on Monday night, Brown said: "He is the sort of player who will give us the creativity we need in midfield."

Okocha said: "I've missed English football and the atmosphere here, so it wasn't a surprise for me to make that decision to come back.

"Phil Brown, who I know from Bolton, influenced me to come here and hopefully I'll pay him back.

"He has given me another opportunity to come and enjoy life in England and I'm looking forward to it."
