The Mariners broke a number of unwanted records last term, including most goals conceded, worst goal difference and most losses in a 27 or 30-round season under ex-coach Tony Walmsley.

Central Coast have evidently improved under Okon, with five wins and five draws in comparison to last term’s three wins and four draws, but appear destined for another wooden spoon.

The side are one point behind ninth-placed Adelaide United with three games to play but are winless in their past five games and unable to make the finals.

Okon said doubling last season’s points tally was motivation ahead of Sunday’s clash away to Brisbane Roar.

“We want to get our sixth win of the season,” Okon said.

“That’ll mean we’ve doubled the amount of wins last season.

“Is it good enough? Absolutely not. We’d hoped for more, but it is what it is.

“Our energy is there to finish the season winning as many games as possible.

“We’re all professional. The integrity of the competition needs to be maintained, which I’m sure it will be.”

Academy rising stars Steve Whyte and Lachlan Wates have been named in Okon's provisional squad to face Brisbane.

But Okon said he wouldn’t take the opportunity of the final three rounds to blood youngsters for the sake of it.

“It’s business as usual,” the former Socceroo said.

“We have enough young players as it is.

“If the opportunity is there to give some experience to younger players I wouldn’t hesitate to do that. But the focus is trying to win the game.

“We want to finish off the season in the possible way. From that perspective, nothing changes for us.

“It’s going to be a tough ask. But we’ll go and try play on our terms and try and get a result.”
