Woodon spooners last season, the Mariners face their longest away trip in round one of the new A-League season.

Glory has spent up big in the off-season with high-profile recruits including Rhys Williams, Rostyn Griffiths, Liam Reddy and Englishman Joseph Mills.

But Okon, who was appointed head coach at the end of August, says his team head to Perth as best prepared as possible and hold no fears of Glory.

“No game’s easy in the A-League,” he told FourFourTwo.

“People keep asking me that, at some stage you have to play every team three times. An away trip to Perth is not easy for any team.

“So we’re aware of that but we’ll go into it as best prepared we can and we certainly won’t be lacking in confidence.

"We’ll go there and play the way we want to play and hopefully come away with something to show for it.”

Central Coast finished bottom of the competition in the 2015/16 season, winning only three games. Former Young Socceroos boss Okon was installed as coach after the dismissal of Tony Walmsley.

Okon has not signed any new players for the upcoming season but still has one spot left on his roster. The Mariners also lost Jake Adelson for the next nine months with an ACL injury.

Okon said he is not rushing into any recruitment decisions.

“We have one spot free but we’re certainly not panicking,” he said.

“I did say I did want to give everyone an opportunity here at the club to show what they can do, and so far I’m happy with every player that’s here.

“We want competition… so there’s that real hunger to make the first XI and along the way if there is someone we feel that can make our team better then we’ll try and do that. Otherwise we’ll just try and move forward on how we are.”

Okon said he is not necessarily after another central defender.

“I haven’t really put my finger 100 per cent on that,” he said.

“Again, wherever that it we want to make sure we’re 100 per cent certain on that and we don’t get it wrong and we get what we want.”
