OLYROO Neil Kilkenny has earned a 'different class' plaudit from Leeds United's coaching staff after coming in from the Elland Road cold.
Kilkenny is revelling in a central midfield role and run of matches for the Yorkshire club, this after being on the fringes of the side when Simon Grayson first arrived at the club.
The Australian told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I'm a central midfielder and that's always been my best position, but this is probably the first time since I came to Leeds that I've had a long run of games there.
"That hasn't happened in the past and you play your best football when you play in the position you know best.
"I've got a lot of confidence in my own ability and it's where I think I should be playing, but people haven't always agreed or let me do that."
Kilkenny looks set to play a big part in the club's expected play-off campaign as they look to bounce back from their final failure at Wembley last season.
Grayson's assistant and former Leeds favourite Glynn Snodin is a confirmed Kilkenny fan. He also believes the club is seeing the best of the player because of a run of matches rather than 90 minutes here and there.
He said: "With Kilkenny, when I watched him in training for the first few days I was here I thought he was different class. I asked 'why isn't he playing each week?' and I was told that he couldn't get round the pitch and so on.
"But if he's only playing two or three games a season, or if he's in for one and out for two, he's not going to be able to do that. He's got his chance, he's got his run and he's going from strength to strength.
"He's looking a player as much as anyone else in this Leeds team. The kid can play, and we've got a great midfield at the moment."
