THE OLYROOS dream of going to London 2012 has all but been killed off after FIFA awarded three points to United Arab Emirates in a row over an ineligible Iraqi player.
FIFA reversed the result of Iraq's November 27 win over UAE as a sanction for fielding Jasim Faisal who was suspended and should have missed the match.
Iraq were deducted the three points for the win and transfrred to UAE who were awarded a 3-0 win.
The edict leaves Uzbekistan and UAE now equal top of Australia's group on eight points after four games, with two more left to play.
Iraq's three point deduction has sent them to the bottom of the ladder with just one point while Australia moves up to third.
Despite that though, the Olyroos now have an even bigger mountain to climb if they have any hope of getting to London.
With just three points from three goalless draws and this week's 2-0 defeat against Uzbekistan, Australia now need to win both remaining games without either the Uzbeks or Emirates taking a single point.
So far Australia have yet to even score a goal in this group, never mind win a match.
The Olyroos are currently in camp in Dubai ahead of their clash with UAE on February 22, followed by their final game of the group against Iraq in Gosford on March 14.
