Goals from Gabriel Agbonlahor, Ashley Young and Patrik Berger secured a comfortable 3-0 Barclays Premiership win over the Blades at Villa Park.

"It was as good as we've played," O'Neill said. "It was great to play well at home and win because we haven't done that often enough.

"We played splendidly from start to finish and were worthy winners."

Before kick-off there was a parade of Aston Villa's European Cup-winning team to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their 1-0 triumph over Bayern Munich in Rotterdam.

And O'Neill added on PremPlus: "I think the appearance of the 82 team gave us all a lift.

"A number of teams (since) for Aston Villa have failed miserably, we might be one, but we're going to try our best along the way."

Villa are now unbeaten in their last eight games but O'Neill admitted he would still be looking to strengthen the squad in the summer.

"It's not always about how much money you have, but it obviously helps," he said.

"What we have is a very supportive chairman (Randy Lerner), he has shown that in January and he has the club at heart.

"We are going to try to improve the squad."

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock admitted his side were outclassed today.

"Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and saw you were beaten by a better side," Warnock said on PremPlus.

"We were poor but Villa were exceptional. They were flying and we couldn't cope with it."

Warnock's side remain outside the relegation zone and their fate is in their own hands with a home game against Wigan on the last day of the season.

"There are twists and turns to come yet," Warnock added. "We've had a bad day at the office but overall they've been superb this season. It's in our own hands and that's what we want it to be.

"It's a bitter taste in your mouth but today we were beaten by a very good side.

"It's good it's in our own hands in the 38th game of the season at a packed Bramall Lane.

"You can't ask for any more than that, they are a genuine bunch of lads."

Warnock was careful not to be drawn into commenting on the situation surrounding relegation rivals West Ham and possible legal action against the Premier League, or Liverpool fielding a weakened side at Fulham today.

But he could not help adding: "I know who I would like to go down but you don't always get your wish.

"I'm delighted at least West Ham are going to Manchester United on the final day. Sir Alex (Ferguson) will play a strong side."
