McDonald headed home after 15 minutes to give Middlesbrough the lead before Ludovic Sylvestre equalised six minutes later with a well-taken goal on the edge of the area.

It was all square at the break before McDonald restored Boro’s lead on the 73rd minute mark before being withdrawn with seven minutes remaining. Boro’s lead was again short lived when on-loan Liverpool midfielder, Jonjo Shelvey equalised for Blackpool with twelve minutes left on the clock.

Rhys Williams set up McDonald’s second goal and was substituted four minutes later on his return from injury.

McDonald now has three goals in two games while Boro’ are unbeaten in sixteen home matches.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Patrick Kisnorbo completed another 90 minutes in Leeds 2-1 win away to Burnley. A double from Robert Snodgrass moved Leeds into fifth spot while Burnley sit five points clear of the relegation zone.

Adam Federici’s Reading suffered a 2-1 loss at home to an inform Cardiff City. The Welsh club have moved within four points of second spot while Reading are six points off the playoff spots.

In the English Premier League, Socceroo Tim Cahill was withdrawn with 15 minutes remaining as his Everton side returned to winning ways after defeating Wolves 2-1 at Goodison Park. Stephen Hunt had given Wolves the lead from the penalty spot on 37 minutes before Phil Jagielka levelled on the stroke of half time. Three points were assured seven minutes from time courtesy of a penalty from Leighton Baines.

Socceroo keeper Mark Schwarzer was the hero in Fulham’s goalless draw away to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Schwarzer made sure his side returned to London with a point after he managed to block an injury-time shot from Sessengnon. Fulham are now level on points with Sunderland in the English Premier League.

Socceroo Matt McKay was rewarded for his impressive performance against Dundee United a fortnight ago with another start in Rangers’ goalless draw against St.Johnstone. The former Roar midfielder played 64 minutes before being replaced by John Fleck. Rangers are unbeaten in their last five games and remain at the summit of the Scottish Premier League.

Mitchell Langerak returned to the ground where he made his Bundesliga debut as Dortmund prevailed 1-0 away to Bayern Munich. Langerak could only watch from the bench but a 65th minute goal from Mario Gotze closed the gap on Bayern to two points.

Nikita Rukavytsya watched from the bench as Hertha Berlin threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 away to Freiburg. The away side headed into the break with a two goal cushion before Stefan Reisinger netted his brace and Freiburg’s equaliser five minutes into injury time.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Mathew Leckie did not feature in the Borussia Monchengladbach match day squad. However, a hat trick from Arsenal target Marco Reus inspired Monchengladbach to a 5-0 drubbing of Werder Bremen.

In 2.Bundesliga, Robbie Kruse was an unused substitute as Fortuna Dusseldorf were held to a goalless draw by Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei. Fortuna remain in top spot with second placed Eintracht Frankfurt yet to play.

Carl Valeri received a 32nd minute yellow card and was withdrawn on the 63rd minute mark in Sassuolo’s last-gasp draw at home to 10-man Brescia. Sassuolo were staring at defeat before Ettore Marchi, Valeri’s replacement, popped up to salvage a draw. Sassuolo have moved down to third on goal difference in Serie B.

In Spain’s Segunda Division, David Carney did not make it off the bench as Alcorcon suffered a 3-1 loss at Cordoba. Alcorcon has failed to taste victory in their last three matches.

Over in the Turkish Super Lig, James Troisi was an unused substitute in Kayserispor’s 1-0 win over Orduspor. A 36th minute goal from Gokhan Unal separated the two sides and ended Kayserispor’s three game losing run.

In Japan, Josh Kennedy was the hero again for Nagoya Grampus in their 2-1 victory over Yokohama Marinos at the Nissan Stadium. Kennedy ensured Nagoya farewelled Yokohama with all three points after finding the back of the net in the 83rd minute. Nagoya occupy top spot with second placed Kashiwa Reysol set to play Shimizu S-Pulse tonight.

Matthew Spiranovic did not make it off the bench in Urawa Red Diamond’s 0-0 draw against Vegalta Sendai at Saitama Stadium in front of 30,891 supporters. Urawa are three points clear of the relegation zone.

In the J2.League, Jade North was absent from the Tokyo side that thumped Gainare Tottori 5-1 at the Tottori Soccer Stadium.

Former Socceroo Scott Chipperfield played the last six minutes of Basel’s 1-0 triumph at home to Young Boys. Basel continues to set the pace in the Swiss Super League.

Nathan Burns was absent from AEK Athens’ 2-0 win over Asteras Tripolis at the Olympiako Stadio Spyros Louis in front of just 5,019 fans.

A first half hat trick from Robbie Simpson helped Oldham Athletic to a convincing 5-2 win at home to Chesterfield. Alex Cisak and James Wesolowski put in full shifts for Athletic at Boundary Park. Paul Dickov’s men have now won three on the trot while Chesterfield are still bottom in League One.

In League Two, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff played another 90 minutes as a rampant Shrewsbury trounced Northampton Town 7-2 at Sixfields Stadium.

In the Czech Liga, Kerem Bulut was absent from Mlada Boleslav’s 3-2 defeat away to Viktoria Plzen. The loss ends Boleslav’s four game unbeaten run.

Across in Cyprus, Danny Invincibile was withdrawn just after the hour mark in Ermis’ 2-0 loss to APOEL. The result leaves Ermis languishing at the foot of the table.
