AUSSIES ABROAD: Matthew Leckie got his FSV Frankfurt career off to a flying start with an assist and a goal in the 10-0 win over Spvgg 08 Bad Nauheim.
Leckie came on after the break and made an immediate impact with a delightful through ball that almost led to a goal.
Midway through the second half, he produced a fine piece of skill to control a cross, before delivering a clever back heel that was hammered home by Stefan Winkel.
The former Adelaide United forward got his own name on the score sheet in the 76th minute, when he waltzed past the opposition defence and drilled a tight angled shot into the back of the net.
Injury, suspension, and poor form limited game time for many of Australia’s Asian-based footballers, while a number of those who did play were on the receiving end of crushing defeats.
In the K-League, Matt Simon played a full match as Chunnam Dragons were obliterated 6-0 by Gwangju FC. Robbie Cornthwaite remained on the bench for the duration of the game.
Sasa Ognenovski put in a full shift as Seongnam lost 3-0 at home to lowly Daejon Citizen.
Just two minutes into the first half, the Socceroo defender came off second best in an aerial duel with Kevin Oris, allowing Deajon to take an early lead.
Fellow Soccer Matt McKay was not in the match day squad for Busan I’Park’s 2-1 loss to Daegu, while Eddy Bosnar missed Suwon’s 4-1 win over Gangwon because of injury.
After the match, Bosnar was named as one of the four defenders in the 2012 K-League All-Star team.
Elsewhere in Korea, Luke DeVere was absent due to suspension and his presence in Gyeongnam’s defence was sorely missed during their 5-3 defeat to Jeonbuk Motors.
Adrian Madaschi and Nathan Burns are both out injured.
In the J-League, Josh Kennedy started and played 84 minutes as Nagoya Grampus defeated Jubilo Iwata 2-0. The 2010 and 2011 J-League golden boot winner has now gone six games without a goal.
Fellow Socceroo striker Alex Brosque was a 73rd minute substitute in the 1-1 draw between Shimizu S-Pulse and Sagan Tosu.
Elsewhere in Japan, Jade North played a full match as Consadole Sapporo suffered a devastating 4-0 loss in the bottom of the table clash against Gamba Osaka.
If they maintain their current form, Consadole will likely be relegated from the J-League by the end of September.
Unsurprisingly, Matthew Spiranovic was not in the Urawa squad for the 0-0 draw against league leaders Vegalta Sendai.
In the J2 League, Mark Milligan played a full match as JEF United Chiba drew 1-1 with Shonan Bellmare.
JEF are now in second position on the J2 League table, equal on points with four other teams.
In the Chinese Super League, Dino Dulbic’s Guizhou Renhe won 2-1 away to Milan Susak’s Tianjin Teda. Dulbic put in a full shift while Susak came on in the 65th minute.
Rostyn Griffiths was an unused substitute for Guangzhou R&F in the 3-2 loss to Qingdao Jonoon.
