Rhys's brother, Ryan Williams had his first taste of FA Cup action in Portsmouth’s 4-0 loss against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Perth-born winger replaced Ricardo Rocha with 20 minutes remaining.

Socceroo Mile Jedinak was absent from Crystal Palace’s 1-0 loss away to Derby County at Pride Park. Theo Robinson’s 9th minute goal proved enough to see Nigel Clough’s men into the next round.

Shane Lowry extended his loan deal at Millwall by a month but was absent from the goalless draw at Dagenham & Redbridge. The two sides will meet again with the winner facing Southampton in the next round after the Saints beat Coventry 2-1 at the Ricoh Arena.

Bristol Rovers new boy, Aaron Downes made his second appearance for the club in their 3-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa. Still suffering with an ankle injury, Chris Herd missed the clash but Villa will face either Arsenal or Leeds in the fourth round.

Socceroo keeper Mark Schwarzer is four weeks away from a return to football but his Fulham side comfortably disposed of Charlton Athletic 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick from American international, Clint Dempsey. The London club will face Tim Cahill’s Everton in the fourth round after they defeated a brave Tamworth 2-0.

The Blue Square Premier side put in a spirited display but goals from Johnny Heitinga and Leighton Baines ensured there was no shock for the Premier League club. Cahill missed the match with a groin injury.

Alex Cisak and James Wesolowski both featured for Oldham in their 5-1 loss away to Liverpool at Anfield. Robbie Simpson gave Paul Dickov’s men a surprise lead after 28 minutes but it was short-lived as Craig Bellamy equalised for the Merseyside club two minutes later. Weslowski was withdrawn on 74 minutes while Dean Bouzanis continued on the bench.

Aaron Mooy played 57 minutes before making way for Jon McShane in St Mirren’s goalless draw at home to First Division side Hamilton Academicals. The Scottish Premier League side had the better chances throughout the match but the two teams will meet again at New Douglas Park on January 17.

Ryan McGowan was suspended for Hearts’ 1-0 victory at home to Auchinleck Talbot in the Scottish Cup while Matt McKay failed to even make the bench in Rangers 4-0 drubbing of Arbroath. FourFourTwo’s own Beau Busch was an unused substitute in Scottish Cup clash.

In Italy’s Serie B, Socceroo midfielder Carl Valeri completed 81 minutes in his return to the Sassuolo starting lineup. The promotion hopefuls sit only two points behind league leaders Torino after securing a late 2-1 win at home to Juve Stabia.

Socceroo captain Lucas Neil opened the scoring for Al Jazira in their entertaining 4-2 victory at home to Al Wahda at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium. The result moves Al Jazira within four points of league leader, Al Ain.

In Greece’s Super League, Nathan Burns was absent from AEK Athens’ 2-0 win over lowly Levadiakos at the Stadio Levadias. The Athens based club are now unbeaten in their last three games.

Across in Turkey, Socceroo James Troisi put in a full shift but couldn’t prevent Kayserispor from suffering a 1-0 defeat away to Antalyaspor. Troisi’s side has dropped down to 10th position following their most recent defeat.

In Spain’s Segunda Division, David Carney was absent from Alcorcon’s 1-1 draw at home to seventh placed Almeria.
