To see the Socceroos in training in Qatar on Friday...

The Socceroos are in Qatar for the Asian Cup ahead of their opener in Group C against India on Monday.

And Osieck told fifa.com he hopes Australia can put together the performances to win the Asian Cup but was cool on our chances of going all the way.

"Definitely our priority is to qualify for the next World Cup but our first big target is the Asian Championship," Osieck said.

"We want to be successful. How far we can go, I don't know, but hopefully we can have a good tournament and impress with our performances."

He added: "I think we have a good team but the question is how quickly the players can gel.

"We have a lot of new faces and it takes some time to integrate but if that happens quickly then I think we can have a good tournament."

Australia are grouped with South Korea, Bahrain and India in Group C, which Osieck said presents a few challenges.

"I think it is a very tough group," Osieck said. "Everybody knows about Korea and about their (development) programs in recent years. Bahrain are one of the top teams in the Gulf region.

"India qualified through a not-so-easy tournament. They are not so well known though I have seen them on tape and they look a pretty decent team."

Osieck, though, was cool on predicting who the favourites should be for the Asian Cup.

"That is hard to predict," he said. "Always in such a tournament the so-called favourites often do not match the expectations and other teams step up.

"It often depends on the occasion and therefore I don't have any clear favourite."

Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer said he believed Australia had learnt a few lessons since 2007's disappointing quarter-final exit.

"Hopefully we've learnt a lot since then," Schwarzer said. "We've had a World Cup campaign under our belts now and we know what it's like to travel to all parts of Asia.

"We've played in Qatar a number of times and we've played many of the opponents we will be facing a number of times before. To a large degree, we now know what to expect."
