SOCCEROOS coach Holger Osieck was focusing on the positives of making the next stage of the World Cup qualifiers after a fairly dismal performance from Australia against a sharp Thailand outfit.
Brett Holman saved Australia's blushes when he connected his head to a perfect ball from Brett Emerton after a rampaging run on the counter attack late in second half to win the game 1-0.
But the goal came despite a near non-stop onslaught from the Thais who played well beyond their lowly 100+ ranking suggested, with a slick quick passing game that ran riot up their right wing.
The home side were simply unable to convert their opportunities and dominant possession into points on the board - and made to pay with Holman's clinical finishing clinching the glory.
After the match Osieck admitted the Thais had give his side the runaround, but insisted that taking points on the road to clinch qualification for the next phase with a game to spare was the important thing.
"It was a pretty tough one today," he said. "They were so well organised and working so hard they made it really difficult for us.
"We didn't move the ball quick enough particularly the first half and the second half we had more attacking aspects. I'm pretty pleased for the boys. Tough win, but a good win.
"You have to consider we had two road games and to play in Asia in different countries like the Middle East and then South East Asia, it's always difficult, it's always adaptation.
"It's not going to be easy for anybody. But from three road games, we won two which is definitely a great achievement."
The final game against Saudi Arabia in Sydney in February is now a dead rubber with Australia's qualification as top of their group confirmed by tonight's win.
But yellow cards meant some key players may miss now miss the date anayway through suspension.
However Osieck added: "We have to compensate, we are missing some guys who are performing well but it's February and in between it's Christmas so let's sink it now!"
