Australia struggled to cope with Jordan's pressing in the first half of the match, before Hassan Abdel-Fattah's 49th minute penalty and Amer Deeb's close-range strike guided the hosts to victory, despite Archie Thompson's late consolation.

Speaking to Fox Sports after the game, a visibly angry Osieck lambasted his side's first half performance.

“The disappointment is enormous,” Osieck said. “We had a very, very poor first half.

“We didn't get into the game, our passing was a disaster, we never could get into our normal rhythm. We played a lot of long balls and I don't know why that happened?

“There was not enough movement in midfield. It was definitely a very poor showing in the first half.

“In the second half we tried very hard. We could have scored but when we can't capitalise then you can't blame anybody else but us.”

The result leaves Australia with just two points from its three qualifiers so far and sitting down in equal third in the group. The Socceroos next face Iraq in a must-win clash in Doha on October 15 with Osieck promising changes.

“I already have my plans,” the German said.

Osieck had no complaints about the penalty decision for Jordan's opening goal, after contact appeared to be minimal from Mile Jedinak on Odai Al Saify.

“You know what you can get in these countries. You always have to calculate in a situation like that,” he said.

The Australia boss did have positive words about Robbie Kruse and Thompson, who came off the bench to give the Socceroos some late hope.

“Archie was okay. Maybe I should've brought him on earlier but you never know before, because Brett Holman is one of our key players there,” he said. “Robbie Kruse did a lot of running, always tried hard.”

Meanwhile, Socceroos skipper Lucas Neill, who was beaten by Al Saify for the second goal, admitted Osieck's threat to make changes was fair if the team was to progress to Brazil 2014.

“Ultimately the job is to get the points to go to Brazil and he has to pick a team he feels will get maximum points now,” he said.

“We can't afford many slipups now. We've got to pick the team that will do the job in each game now.”

Neill added: “We've got to keep believing and stay positive. There's plenty of points to play for. But if we perform like we did tonight it's going to be difficult.”
