ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

HARRY KEWELL (Liverpool)
His side came home with a 2-0 win against Sunderland last weekend, and emerged 5-0 winners on aggregate in the Champions League qualifier against Toulouse during the week. But there was still no place for Kewell on the bench. He has been laid up with another groin injury - and missed a place in the Socceroos squad - but there was talk during the week that he might be fit this weekend for the home game against Derby, even if it just a start off the bench. That is, of course, if he's still a Liverpool player by this time tomorrow...Turns out he is, until January at least anyway. Not that he made the bench for the Derby game though. Liverpool destroyed them 6-0.

LUCAS NEILL (West Ham)
He played the full game against Wigan and they grabbed a 1-1 draw last weekend. He also played the full game in the Carling Cup clash against Bristol Rovers. He's also signed up to return to Oz for the Socceroos' game against Argentina. West Ham thrashed Reading 3-0 this weekend and Neill played the whole match, creating the opening goal for Bellamy.

MARK VIDUKA - JAMES TROISI (Newcastle United)
Troisi played in the reserves 2-2 draw with Sunderland reserves during the week, almost scoring once by accident and setting up another. Viduka opened his scoring account with Newcastle last weekend against his old club Middlesbrough. He was missing from the Socceroos squad to play Argentina, but Graham Arnold insisted he had not retired from international football yet. Newcastle are at home to Wigan and will be hoping to beat their six month goalless home run hoodoo. Viduka was teamed up with Michael Owen in attack - and almost set him up for an opener - but missed the second half with a hamstring injury, his place taken by Ameobi. Owen finally ended Newcastle's home run hoodoo with the winning goal.

MARK SCHWARZER - BRAD JONES (Middlesbrough)
He was facing Socceroo team-mate Mark Viduka last weekend and Boro came away with a draw, despite Schwarzer twice being beaten, including one strike from Viduka. He's signed up for the Argentina game but faces a challenge for the number one jersey from Sydney's Clint Bolton. Domestically, he also faces a renewed challenge from Brad Jones who was between the sticks for Boro's Carling Cup clash against Northampton during the week and kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 win. Boro welcome Birmingham to the Riverside this weekend, with Schwarzer in goal and Jones on the bench. Schwarzer kept a clean sheet as Boro beat Brum 2-0

BRETT EMERTON (Blackburn Rovers)
Everton snatched a late equaliser to tie the game with Emerton playing for the full 90 last week, but Emerton played the full game in their first round UEFA Cup return tie against MyPa during the week, almost creating a goal, and won 3-0 on aggregate. Rovers played host to Manchester City on Sunday and Emmo played the whole game as his team won 1-0, with both sides ending up with 10-men.

JOSIP SKOKO (Wigan Athletic)
His team faced Neill's West Ham last weekend but Skoko didn't get on the bench. He got a full game in the Carling Cup tie against Championship side Hull City, but got bundled out by the minnows. He's in the Socceroos squad for Argentina - but said it will be his farewell match. Wigan were away to Newcastle this weekend, and Skoko started on the bench but came into the action from the 29th minute. His side went down 1-0 though.

TIM CAHILL (Everton)
Everton were without Tim again when they drew the match against Rovers without him last weekend. He's now tipped to return to action at the end of September, too late for the Argentina match. Everton took on Bolton away this weekend and just squeaked a 2-1 win.

ADRIAN LEIJER - AHMED ELRICH (Fulham)
Neither Aussies were in the squad that went down 2-1 to Villa last weekend and they don't get a look in this weekend for the home derby against Spurs, despite Fulham having a few injuries in defence. Fulham came back from 3-1 down to tie the game at 3-3.

ADAM FEDERICI (Reading)
Federici faces a long season on the bench playing second fiddle to Marcus Hahnemann, but he'll be unhappy to have let three past him against Bolton last weekend. Adam stayed on the bench. He didn't help his Socceroos cause much by insisting he had no intention of flying home to take part in the Argentina match. He did say he wanted to taste cup success though and was in goals for their narrow 1-0 win in extra time over lowly Swansea. Reading faced West Ham this weekend, with Fed on the bench, but Hahnemann couldn't stop the Hammers scoring three times without reply.

BUNDESLIGA

MICHAEL BEAUCHAMP - JOSHUA KENNEDY - MATTHEW SPIRANOVIC - DARIO VIDOSIC (Nurnberg)
They faced Werder Bremen last weekend and Beauchamp was back in the starting line-up, alongside Kennedy. Kennedy came off after 60 minutes, but Beauchamp played the whole game while Spiranovic stayed on the bench. Vidosic didn't get a look in as their side went down 1-0. They drew 1-1 away to Cottbus this weekend. Beauchamp and Kennedy got their Socceroos call-up for the Argentina match. Vidosic made it onto the bench at last but wasn't used. Neither was Beauchamp alongside him, but Kennedy started and played 57 minutes before he came off.

ITALIAN SERIE A
MARK BRESCIANO (Palermo)
No-one came in with a last minute offer for Bresh on transfer deadline day but he's said he's prepared to wait for a move. Palermo lost 2-0 to Roma at home on Sunday, with Bresh coming on at half-time and picking up a booking after the 64 minute mark. He got a call-up for the Argentina game and was talking about how excited he is by the clash. He came on after 73 minutes in their 4-2 win away against Livorno, who were booed off the field by their fans.

VINCE GRELLA (Torino)
He's also in the squad for the Argentina game and shook off injury worries to play the whole game against Reggina at home, which they drew 2-2 after giving away a last minute equaliser.

ZELJKO KALAC (AC Milan)
Spider will again be bench-warming for most of the coming season unless Dida knacks himself. Milan were away to Genoa and won 3-0, with Kalac on the bench. They play Fiorentina on Monday.

JESS VANSTRATTAN (Juventus)
Jess was left in the lurch after the Italian FA blocked his move to Juventus after a complaint from his old club, Verona. They had released him from his contract to return home to Australia for personal reasons... only to sign up at Juventus soon after. It's all been settled now - and Jess is back at Juve, but on loan this time.

ITALIAN SERIE B

CARL VALERI (Grosseto)
His club kicked off their season away against Modena but went down 3-0, with Valeri playing the full match. They lost 1-0 to Brescia this weekend. Valeri was another overseas Aussie called up for the Socceroos squad to face Argentina.

ENGLISH CHAMPIONSHIP

JAMES WESOLOWSKI - PATRICK KISNORBO - PAUL HENDERSON (Leicester City)
Leicester played Watford at home last weekend and thrashed them 4-1, with Kisnorbo hailed as man of the match. He and Wes played the full game and escaped any yellows despite 11 dished out by the ref. Henderson stayed on the bench. It's been an eventful week for the Foxes. Their Carling Cup match against Nottingham Forest was cancelled after Clive Clarke collapsed mid-game. And their manager Martin Allen was also sacked out of the blue during the week. They now face Plymouth away this weekend. Kisnorbo got a recall to the Australia squad for the Argentina team, which surprised one or two... Henderson was on the bench, Kis and Wes were starters but it was a goalless affair, Kis picked up a yellow and missed a gilt-edged chance to break the deadlock.

DAVID CARNEY (Sheffield United)
Sheffield were at home to West Brom last weekend and won 1-0 - but Carney was again missing from the first team. But he played all but the last moments of their Carling Cup tie against MK Dons, who they just squeaked past 3-2 after extra time. Manager Bryan Robson was pleased by his reserve side team, which gives hope Carney might just earn a regular starting slot. They lost 3-2 to Scunthorpe this weekend, but Carney was been ruled out with a dead leg. That didn't stop him earning a place back in the Socceroos squad though...

RICHARD GARCIA (Hull City)
Garcia was the star when Hull edged out Norwich City 2-1 at home last weekend. He got the winner just minutes after Norwich thought they'd salvaged a draw. But he was missing from the giant-killing squad that beat Wigan 1-0 in the Carling Cup. They face Blackpool away on Monday.

NICK WARD (QPR)
Flamboyant Italian Flavio Briatore is in talks to buy his club and QPR were due to face Burnley away last weekend, but young QPR striker Ray Jones was killed in a car crash hours before the match, and the tie was postponed. His team will carry Jones's name on all their shirts as a tribute in this weekend's game against Southampton. Ward didn't make the bench though but may be carrying an injury, and his side went down 3-0.

ENGLISH LEAGUE ONE

CHRIS COYNE (Luton Town)
Luton whooped Gillingham 3-1 last weekend with Coyne playing the whole game, then thrashed Premiership side Sunderland 3-0 in a huge win for the club. Coyne played the whole game. Luton play Leeds away this weekend and Coyne played the full game, but they lost 1-0.

NEIL KILKENNY (Oldham)
Oldham took on Bristol Rovers at home last weekend but lost 1-0. Kilkenny played the whole game but faces between three and eight weeks out after ripping a thigh muscle. His side missed him when they went down 3-0 to Burnley in the Carling Cup during the week. They got thumped 4-1 by Hartlepool away this weekend.

JOEL PORTER (Hartlepool United)
They won 2-0 away to Port Vale last weekend and Porter came on for the last minute of action. He played the extra time as Hartlepool went down 2-1 to Sheffield Wednesday after a deadlocked 90 minutes. They played host to Oldham this weekend and Porter came off the bench after 64 minutes to score his side's fourth 19 minutes later for a 4-1 win.

ENGLISH LEAGUE TWO
SHANE HUKE (Dagenham and Redbridge)
Hopefully his uncle Ian in Melbourne will read this and email us a pic of Shane to: 442 at newsandfeatures.net...ta! The Daggers were thrashed 4-0 by Basildon United at home last weekend, but Huke played the whole game and had a late shot on goal go over the bar. They're currently propping up the bottom of League Two and play fourth-placed Lincoln City this weekend, with Huke coming off the bench for the game's dying moments as they won 1-0.

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

SCOTT McDONALD (Celtic)
Celtic destroyed Hearts 5-0 last weekend and although McDonald wasn't one of the scorers he played a key role in the game. He finally got his first competitive goal for Celtic in their Champions League qualifier against Spartak Moscow in a fabulous game that was decided by penalties to take them into the group stages. Boss Gordon Strachan's delighted to have given him a second chance and now McDonald wants to be a Euro hero. To top off his week, he is available and selected for the Argentina match, where he has the chance to take Viduka's crown as Australia's key striker. Celtic were away to St Mirren on Sunday and the McSocceroo started in what turned out to be a 5-1 slaughter, with McDonald creating the first and scoring the second after 25 minutes before being relieved of striker duties after 70 minutes when his side were safely 4-0 up.

DANNY INVINCIBILE (Kilmarnock)
Killie faced Rangers at home last weekend and Danny started...and scored an equaliser. It wasn't enough though - Rangers got a winner to take the three points. They beat Peterhead 3-0 in the CIS Cup midweek and Danny started, but he came off after 17 minutes. He's carrying an injury now and missed this weekend's 1-0 loss at home against Aberdeen.

ERIK PAARTALU (Gretna)
Paartalu had to watch from the bench though as his 10-man team went down 2-1 to Motherwell, but started for their 3-1 CIS Cup win against Cowdenbeath. He almost scored with a cracking volley that went just over the bar but was subtituted at half-time. He may be an injury worry for their game against Rangers this weekend and watched all but the last four minutes from the bench as his side got slaughtered 4-0. Which is a shame, because Getty might just have taken his picture if he'd played more...

SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION

SIMON STOREY (Partick Thistle)
The Jags played Dundee away last weekend who ended Thistle's winning streak with a convincing 3-0 win over the Glasgow visitors who were down to 10 men by the final whistle. Storey played the whole match and against when they finally overcame St Johnstone in the CIS Cup on penalties after a stalemate 120 minutes. They lost 3-0 to Hamilton at home this weekend, and Storey played the whole match.

DUTCH EREDIVISIE

JASON CULINA (PSV Eindhoven)
Culina faced another Aussie when they played NEC last weekend. PSV won the match in strident fashion, coming home 5-0 winners. Culina came on as a sub after 66 minutes but still managed to pick up PSV's only booking. Culina's another in the Socceroos squad. PSV played out a goalless draw with FC Twente this weekend and Culina stayed on the bench.

LUKE WILKSHIRE (FC Twente)
FC Twente's faced Utrecht on Sunday and held to a 2-2 draw at home, with Wilkshire playing the whole game. Wilkshire's also in the Socceroos squad. PSV played out a goalless draw with FC Twente this weekend and Wilkshire came close to breaking the stalemate while playing the full game.

EDDY BOSNAR (Heracles)
Heracles lost again last Friday night, going down 2-1 to Roda, but Bosnar was subbed at the start of the second, sparking injury fears. They got thumped 4-1 by NAC this weekend, with Bosnar playing up to the 75th minute.

BRETT HOLMAN (NEC)
Holman took on Jason Culina's PSV last weekend and played the whole game, but his side were thrashed 5-0. His club lost 1-0 away to Vitesse on Sunday - with Holman almost equalising and forcing a save instead - but Holman will be pleased he too got an unexpected recall to the Socceroos squad.

ROMANIAN LIGA 1

WAYNE SRHOJ - JONATHAN McKAIN (FCU Politehnica Timisoara)
Timisoara lost 4-1 against Unirea Urziceni last Friday and it was a bad night for the Aussies - McKain came off after just 18 minutes, to be replaced by Shroj who picked up two bookings in the second half, leading to a red after 62 minutes. Urziceni also saw red - but it appears to have been their trainer and club president who were sent off by the ref. They played Rapid at home last Sunday and drew 1-1, but the Aussies were rested for the match. They beat UTA 3-2 on Sunday but McKain didn't feature while Srhoj came off the bench after 53 minutes.

JOSH MITCHELL - JOSHUA ROSE - MICHAEL BAIRD - SPASE DILEVSKI (FC Universitatea Craiova)
They notched up another loss last Friday, going down 1-0 to Urziceni, but Dilevski made his club debut and played the full game, as did Mitchell and Rose, with Baird not making the bench. They lost 2-0 away to Rapid Bucharest on Saturday, with Mitchell, Rose and Dilevski all playing the whole match, Josh and Spase both picking up bookings along the way.

NORWEGIAN PREMIER LEAGUE

SHANE STEFANUTTO (Lillestrom)
Stefanutto was on the scoresheet as Lillestrom smashed Aalesund 7-0 last Sunday. They drew 1-1 away to Viking on Sunday.

KASEY WEHRMAN (Fredrikstad)
His side drew 2-2 with Viking Stavanger a fortnight ago, with Wehrman playing the whole match and picking up a booking along the way. He sent in the cross that led to his side's late and vital equaliser. They beat Tromso 2-1 last Sunday and play Stabaek on Monday.

SWISS SUPER LEAGUE

SCOTT CHIPPERFIELD (FC Basel)
Chippers got a winning double as his team won 4-2 against Lucerne last weekend. The scores were squared at 2-2 until Chippers got his brace in the second half to give Basel an important away win. Chippers was one of the leading names missing from the Socceroos squad. He scored the last-gasp winner for his club against Thun this weekend to claim a 2-1 victory in the 90th minute after playing the whole match and picking up a booking.

TURKISH SUPERLIG

MICHAEL PETKOVIC (Sivasspor)
Sivasspor played Fenerbahçe last weekend but Petko couldn't keep out a strike from Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos whose goal was enough to give the home side a 1-0 win. They were at home to Gaziantepspor on Sunday and Petko kept a clean in another fraught match, both sides reduced to 10-men by the end. Sivass won 2-0.

NICKY CARLE (Genclerbirligi)
Last weekend they faced Bursaspor at home but lost 3-1 with Carle playing the whole match. He too got a call-up to the Socceroos squad. This weekend, they were away to Ankaragucu and drew 2-2 with Carle playing the whole match.

MILE STERJOVSKI (Genclerbirligi OFTAS)
Turkish football latest Aussie has just joined the reserve side of Carle's Genclerbirligi club, making their debut season in the Superlig. He'll be hoping to make an appearance in the club's game against Fenerbahce on Sunday. He missed out on a place in the Socceroos squad though. He proved his worth for his new team by coming off the bench for thelast 17 minutes...and scoring a vital equaliser to tie the game 1-1. He's a new Turkish hero.

JAPANESE J-LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

ALVIN CECCOLI (Avispa Fukuoka)
Avispa lost 4-3 away to Kyoto Purple last weekend and went down 1-0 to Shonan Bellmare midweek. Ceccoli appears to have missed the last game and doesn't look like he was on the bench, although there's no word on a injury. They play Sagan Tosu on Sunday.

HOMELESS

JOHN ALOISI
Still on the hunt for a new club after his bid to move to the A-League fell through and subsequent deals have come to nothing. Will want to find one soon or his Socceroo place could be in doubt. Has been linked to a possible move to an Eastern European club this week.

JOHN FILAN
The former Wigan 'keeper was almost a stand-in reserve goalie for Sydney on a short-term contract but the deal fell through.
