ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

HARRY KEWELL (Liverpool)
He's on the comeback trail...again. Kewell was tipped to be appearing in the Liverpool Reserves match against Crewe Alexandra during the week. But it would appear the irony of him playing in that match while the Socceroos were taking on Argentina wasn't lost on coaching staff and he was spared the indignity. There was talk he might take a place on the bench for their away game at Portsmouth but he was a no-show for the 0-0 draw.

LUCAS NEILL (West Ham)
After a solid, if not spectacular, performance with the Socceroos against Argentina, Neill was back at West Ham for their 3-0 win over Mark Schwarzer and Middlesbrough, starting the match as skipper and playing the whole game. He looked a bit jetlagged though and missed an offide trap that almost cost the Hammers a goal. His boss Alan Curbishley isn't keen on international duties interfering with his domestic campaign.

MARK VIDUKA - JAMES TROISI (Newcastle United)
Troisis's been quietly having a stormer of a season in the Newcastle Reserves, scoring goals and creating others as he battles to make it into the first team. He struck again in the reserves match against Bolton. Viduka meanwhile has enjoyed a rest after counting himself out of the Socceroos' glamour match with Argentina. He limped out of Newcastle's last match with a hamstring injury, and despite hopes to the contrary, that didn't clear up in time for him to start in Monday's match against Derby.

MARK SCHWARZER - BRAD JONES (Middlesbrough)
Schwarzer and Neill were reunited on the field against after Tuesday's Argentina match, but this time on opposite sides. Boro travelled to West Ham and Schwarzer was a small doubt over the knee injury he picked up late in the Argentina game but started between the sticks for Boro with Jones on the bench, ready to step in if needed. Boro had a shocker though and went down 3-0, including an own goal that left Schwarzer no chance. Meanwhile, Schwarzer is still dragging his feet on signing a new contract with Boro.

BRETT EMERTON (Blackburn Rovers)
Another of the top names missing from the Socceroos squad against Argentina, Emmo was fit and ready to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, making it into the starting line-up in his regular slot as his side drew 0-0, thanks to a dodgy offside call.

JOSIP SKOKO (Wigan Athletic)
He was given a warm farewell from the Socceroos as he called it quits on his international career and now he can focus on his domestic future. He's had an erratic season and so far is unable to hold down a guaranteed first team start. Maybe retirement will suit him better. Wigan faced Fulham this weekend and Skoko started on the bench but came on after for the last 30 minutes and picked up a booking as his side salvaged a 1-1 draw.

TIM CAHILL (Everton)
He's been out injured all season since breaking a bone in his foot in a pre-season friendly against Werder Bremen, but now Tim too is on the comeback trail. Scans this week showed it was all healing well and he's back running on the foot. "I had an X-ray on Tuesday and it is positive. The bone is starting to calcify over and that is all I need to see - that we are moving forward," Cahill told the club's website. "I feel like I have come a long way. In my head I am ready and set. I have done everything possible to be fit but realistically it is not possible. It is about keeping myself positive and keeping myself training every day." Everton lost 1-0 at home against Man United.

ADRIAN LEIJER (Fulham)
Leijer's the sole Aussie at Fulham now Ahmad Elrich has been released from his contract. Leijer missed the Olyroos matches through suspension and has still to get his first team start with Fulham, once again missing from line-up for their 1-1 draw with Wigan this weekend.

ADAM FEDERICI (Reading)
Federici is having another long season on the bench playing second fiddle to Marcus Hahnemann. You might think he would be keen to possibly get a rare game by making himself available for the Socceroos but, no, he ruled himself out. Enjoy your season, Adam. Reading lost 2-1 away to Sunderland this weekend with Fed on the bench.

BUNDESLIGA

MICHAEL BEAUCHAMP - JOSHUA KENNEDY - MATTHEW SPIRANOVIC - DARIO VIDOSIC (Nurnberg)
The Olyroos and Socceroos will be reunited on the same side for their club's match against Hannover 96 this weekend after this week's international duties, but they all got a well-earned rest. Beechy and Spira made it to the bench, but their services weren't required as Nurnberg drew 2-2.

ITALIAN SERIE A

MARK BRESCIANO (Palermo)
Bresh had a cracker of a match against Argentina, and once again, Manchester City are still said to be interested in grabbing him come the January transfer window. He'll be facing his Socceroo team-mate Vinnie Grella when Palermo play host to Torino on Sunday. Bresh came on after 27 minutes to replace the injured Pisano and almost doubled his side's early 1-0 lead when a scorcher shot was parried by the Torino 'keeper, but Torino found a second half equaliser and it finished 1-1.

VINCE GRELLA (Torino)
He too had a good game against Argentina, even with a savage tackle near full-time, and he'll be facing his Socceroo team mate Mark Bresciano when his club makes the trip to Sicily to play Palermo on Sunday. Grella came on after 44 minutes to replace the injured Zanetti and ten minutes later, Torino had equalised for a final 1-1 draw.

ZELJKO KALAC (AC Milan)
Spider's still bench-warming, still waiting for Dida to knack himself. AC drew 1-1 with Siena this weekend and Dida was in goal.

JESS VANSTRATTAN (Juventus)
Jess was left in the lurch after the Italian FA blocked his move to Juventus after a complaint from his old club, Verona. They had released him from his contract to return home to Australia for personal reasons... only to sign up at Juventus soon after. It's all been settled now - and Jess is back at Juve, but on loan this time. Juve lost 1-0 to Udinese this weekend and Buffon was between the sticks.

ITALIAN SERIE B

CARL VALERI (Grosseto)
He's looking like Skoko's replacement in the Socceroos after being swapped for him in the Argentina match but he needs to raise his passing game to guarantee selection. Grosseto drew 0-0 with Cesena this weekend and Valeri played the whole game.

ENGLISH CHAMPIONSHIP

JAMES WESOLOWSKI - PATRICK KISNORBO - PAUL HENDERSON (Leicester City)
Kisnorbo stayed on the bench for the Argentina game and a nation breathed easier for it. He might not have made much of a successful impact on the Socceroos but there's no denying he's having a great season at Leicester. The Aussies have a new manager there this week and they faced a home tie with QPR this weekend. Kis and Wes played the full match- with Wes almost snatching a late winner - but Henderson was on the bench as they drew 1-1.

DAVID CARNEY (Sheffield United)
Carney is pressing hard for a regular first team slot at Sheffield with another blockbuster performance for the Socceroos against Argentina. Charged with matching wonderkid Leo Messi, Carney emerged with his reputation intact, and almost scored against the South Americans too. The Blades won 3-1 at home to Wolves this weekend but Carney still hasn't earned a place even on the bench.

RICHARD GARCIA (Hull City)
Hull were bolstered by the arrival of former Sydney marquee target Jay Jay Okocha and took on Stoke this week, with Garcia starting and played for 75 minutes but his side rescued a point with a late equaliser for a 1-1 draw.

NICK WARD (QPR)
He shrugged off injury worries to make an impact for the Olyroos, scoring against Lebanon on Wednesday night. His club drew 1-1 with the fellow Aussies in the Leicester line up this weekend, but Ward didn't make the bench, presumably getting a rest after his international ardours.

ENGLISH LEAGUE ONE

CHRIS COYNE (Luton Town)
Coyne's squad took on Tranmere away on Friday and Coyne played the whole game but his side lost 2-1 to the new league leaders.

NEIL KILKENNY (Oldham)
Kilkenny looked to be out for two months after ripping a thigh muscle but he's said to have made remarkable progress and could be back in action by the end of the month. He still watched from the stands this weekend though as Oldham played host to Southend but lost 1-0.

JOEL PORTER (Hartlepool United)
Joel came on after 74 minutes last weekend as 'Pool went down 2-0 to an on-form Leeds United as they notched up their fifth win in a row. They took on Swindon this weekend and Porter started on the bench but came on for the second half and scored a vital equaliser to level the scores at 1-1. He also picked up a booking for his troubles.

ENGLISH LEAGUE TWO

SHANE HUKE (Dagenham and Redbridge)
Huke came on after 53 minutes as the Daggers drew 1-1 with Barnet last weekend. They were away to Notts County this weekend and Huke came off the bench for the last 11 minutes as his side went down 1-0.

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

SCOTT McDONALD (Celtic)
McSocceroo pulled out of the Socceroos for the Argentina match with a hamstring injury at the eleventh hour but we can't help but feel he might just have made a miracle recovery to take part in this weekend's home game against Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Who knows though - maybe we're wrong... Oh look - we're right. McDonald started upfront for the Bhoys. Surprise, surprise... He played 72 minutes and came off when Celtic were 5-0 up and his services were no longer required, although he was one of the few not to score for the Hoops but still peppered the Cally goal with his shots.

DANNY INVINCIBILE (Kilmarnock)
He was carrying an injury a fortnight ago and couldn't shake it off in time for the 2-1 away win against Gretna this weekend.

ERIK PAARTALU (Gretna)
Erik made it into the line-up for the Kilmarnock game, but only as far as the bench. He came on for the second half but his side lost 2-1, despite Paartalu shaving the bar.

SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION

SIMON STOREY (Partick Thistle)
He played the whole match as Partick made heavy weather of beating Berwick Rangers 3-1 in the Challenge Cup, but he got in one good shot on goal but it was straight at the keeper. They play St Johnstone this weekend and Storey was a shoe-in to start but they lost 2-1.

DUTCH EREDIVISIE

JASON CULINA (PSV Eindhoven)
After his Socceroo duties - and the chance to meet up with his dad Branko - it's back to the domestic grindstone with a match against Vitesse this weekend. Culina was missing from the PSV squad, presumably being rested and his side won 1-0.

LUKE WILKSHIRE (FC Twente)
He started the game against Argentina but had a pretty low profile throughout. Now it's back to Holland and an away match against Willem II on Sunday, but Wilkshire came off after just five minutes with an injury as his side went on to win 3-1.

EDDY BOSNAR (Heracles)
Heracles struggling start to the season won't be helped by their home game with Ajax this weekend. Bosnar played for 79 minutes before being replaced, but his lost 1-0.

BRETT HOLMAN (NEC)
Another Socceroos call-up, another game without endangering the opposition goal. Holman's another struggling to convert his club success into international glory, but NEC will be glad to have him back for their against NAC on Sunday. Ooo, it's the clash of the TLAs in the Eredivisie! Holman played the whole game but couldn't find the back of the net and his side went down 1-0.

ROMANIAN LIGA 1

WAYNE SRHOJ - JONATHAN McKAIN (FCU Politehnica Timisoara)
Timi beat Vaslui 2-1 at home this weekend, with Srhoj coming on for the last 15 minutes (and picking up a 92nd minute booking) while McKain stayed on the bench.

JOSH MITCHELL - JOSHUA ROSE - MICHAEL BAIRD - SPASE DILEVSKI (FC Universitatea Craiova)
The Aussie contingent were set to pad out the Craiova line-up when they lost 1-0 to UTA at home this weekend. All four started the game, but Dilevski picked up a yellow after 50 minutes and Baird was substituted two minutes later.

NORWEGIAN PREMIER LEAGUE

SHANE STEFANUTTO (Lillestrom)
Stefanutto played the whole game at home against Tromso, but picked up as a booking as his side went down 3-0.

KASEY WEHRMAN (Fredrikstad)
Wehrmnan didn't make the bench against SK Brann and they went down 4-0 at home.

SWISS SUPER LEAGUE

SCOTT CHIPPERFIELD (FC Basel)
Having missed the Asian Cup, Chipperfield skipped the Argentina game too. Could the end be in sight for Chippers' career? Dave Carney has staked an impressive claim to his place so it might not be the problem position for the Aussies it has in the past. His club faces Neuchatel Xamax on Sunday and unless his pregnant wife goes into labour, Scott should be a starter.

TURKISH SUPERLIG

MICHAEL PETKOVIC (Sivasspor)
Sivasspor took on Genclerbirligi OFTAS this weekend and Petkovic kept a clean sheet as Sivass emerged 1-0 winners.

NICKY CARLE (Genclerbirligi)
Carle cemented his place in the side after his Socceroos duties with a place in the starting line up for the home game against Manisaspor on Sunday, but came off after 50 minutes. His side lost 2-0.

MILE STERJOVSKI (Genclerbirligi OFTAS)
He's made an impressive start, scoring on his debut for the reserve side of Carle's club. He wasn't in the Socceroos squad so he would have been rested and aiming to prove a point when the club took on Sivasspor this weekend, and came on for the second half, but his side went down 1-0

JAPANESE J-LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

ALVIN CECCOLI (Avispa Fukuoka)
Alvin was back in the line-up and played the full match as his side went down 1-0 to Cerezo Osaka during the week. They lost 2-0 Tokyo Verdy away on Sunday and Ceccoli played the whole match.

HOMELESS

JOHN ALOISI
Still on the hunt for a new club after his bid to move to the A-League fell through and subsequent deals have come to nothing. Will want to find one soon or his Socceroo place could be in doubt. Has been linked to a possible move to an Eastern European club this week.

AHMAD ELRICH
Was heavily linked with a move to the Mariners after Fulham released him from his contract but so far nothing has come of it, apart from a denial from the Central Coast club. Has also been linked with Queensland Roar but can they fit him in? His brother Tarek insists it's not about cash though. Phoenix is now the hot tip.

JOHN FILAN
The former Wigan 'keeper was almost a stand-in reserve goalie for Sydney on a short-term contract but the deal fell through.
