The bid management team will be in Switzerland where they will be joined by other countries equally determined to land the 2018 or 2022 tournaments.

The Australian party will head to Europe boosted by FIFA's latest rankings which show the Socceroos as the 16th best team in the world.

Another boost for the Aussies comes in the shape of reported comments from a powerful figure in FIFA's executive committee, former German international Franz Beckenbauer.

He told the Sun-Herald: "Australia? I think they have a good chance because the World Cup's never been to Australia."

However, at the same press conference he also stated that the 2018 tournament should be in Europe as it was that continent's turn.

While the bid team attend the workshop, Australian efforts will hopefully be further boosted as Prime Minister Kevin Rudd stops off in Switzerland to lobby FIFA boss Sepp Blatter.
