BRISBANE Roar's opening weekend woes have worsened with defender Andrew Packer sidelined for six to 12 weeks with a groin injury.
The experienced performer landed heavily during his side's 3-1 defeat by Gold Coast United on Saturday night and he was forced to hobble off just 10 minutes into the game. He was replaced by Young Socceroo Luke DeVere.
Brisbane's injury bulletin today said the player will be out of action for a minimum of six weeks. Packer joins Massimo Murdocca in the treatment room with the influential midfielder still recovering from a pre-season broken leg.
Coach Frank Farina will take his players to Melbourne for round two and he remains in good heart despite the Gold Coast defeat.
Speaking after Saturday's reverse, he said: "I think if we play like that, improve a little bit as well, we'll win more games than we lose. Sometimes in football you just have to take your medicine, this is one of those times."
