GOLD Coast United owner Clive Palmer's bid for an injunction against Football Federation Australia's decision to revoke the club's licence has been denied at the Supreme Court of Queensland on Friday evening.
The decision means Football Federation Australia will take over the reins of the club for the remainder of the A-League season.
In a marathon hearing that went well into the evening, Justice Jean Dalton denied Palmer an interim injunction until a full hearing on Wednesday.
She said the slanging match between Palmer and the FFA over the past fortnight showed both parties could no longer co-operate.
FFA CEO Ben Buckley welcomed the decision
"The FFA was well prepared for this outcome and tonight have activated a plan to run the Gold Coast team this Sunday," he said.
"We have appointed Tom Sermanni, the Westfield Matildas coach, to coach the team this Sunday. Tom is a highly experienced club coach and will join the Gold Coast players tomorrow for their preparations."
"The players are ready to travel to Wellington tomorrow morning. I thank the PFA for their assistance and cooperation in this matter."
"In particular, I pay tribute to the players who have shown great professionalism and dedication over these past days."
"Their desire to play football and complete the season with dignity has been inspiring."
There was a fear if Palmer was unsuccessful in his bid it would leave Sunday's clash with Wellington Phoenix in jeopardy but Gold Coast players were set to sign new contracts with the FFA on Friday night to ensure they can travel to New Zealand in time for Sunday's game.
PFA's Brendan Schwab and A-League chief Lyall Gorman have been in talks with the players to appease them that their contracts would be fulfilled.
It was a case of business as usual for the players themselves on Friday morning as they took to the training paddock at Carrara.
In the face of all the political and legal turmoil surrounding their club, the squad had little choice but to continue with the task at hand and prepare for the Phoenix game.
Gold Coast is scheduled to fly to New Zealand on Saturday morning.
Players declined to comment on advice from the PFA but caretaker coach Mike Mulvey said his focus was solely on football.
