Wellington Phoenix midfielder Goran Paracki says his side’s inability to take their chances was their downfall in Saturday’s 1-0 loss away to Melbourne City.
Ross McCormack’s 69th minute free-kick goal split the sides despite Phoenix dominating possession 60% to 40% and the shots count, 15 to nine.
Paracki, who was voted Fox Sports’ Player of the Match, bemoaned missed chances with Andrija Kaludjerovic spurning a second-half one-on-one chance and Roy Krishna hitting the post late.
“We were very good today,” Paracki told Fox Sports.
“We were very unlucky. We concede a goal from the free-kick. We had some good chances.
“That’s the main difference. They scored from the free-kick and we didn’t from the one-on-one situation.
“We can be satisfied because of our play, but zero points is not good.”
Wellington continued to play a passing style until the end of the game, despite trailing 1-0.
The result leaves Phoenix with one point from three games.
“The coaches want to play good football,” Paracki said.
“I think we showed that but all we need is a result.
“One point after three games but I’m satisfied with how we play and I think the result will come.”
