A marvellous solo goal from Hatem Ben Arfa and Papiss Cisse's late strike sealed victory for the hosts in Monday's match at St James' Park.

The win sees Newcastle draw level on 59 points with fourth-placed Tottenham, and means the club remains very much in the hunt for qualification to UEFA's elite competition.

"I said all along that if we can get to the last six games and be in and around, we will give it a go," Pardew told Sky Sports.

"That is what our fans want to see us do - an honest commitment to win the game. That is what we have done all year.

"It has got us where we are now. We are not going to get carried away by it."

Pardew acknowledged the brilliance of Ben Arfa's goal, although he felt this Frenchman's January strike against Blackburn in the FA Cup was a superior effort.

"I think the goal at Blackburn was probably better, if I'm honest," he said.

"But this one is going to be Premier League coverage.

"He is going to get what he deserves for this goal, because, the last one, he did not get enough coverage for that goal.

"Hopefully it will edge the French manager to include him in the French squad, because he is desperate to get in that.

"He showed that today. Not just his goal, but his performance, his work-rate. It was fantastic."

Bolton manager Owen Coyle questioned why referee Mike Jones and his match officials allowed Cisse's goal to stand, despite the Senegal striker apparently occupying an offside position.

"With the second goal, he (Jones) is relying on his assistant referee," Coyle said.

"Of course it is always hard to take.

"Teams at the bottom end, more often than not, do not get those decisions when the luck is not going your way.

"But we will have to pick ourselves up and go again. We know we have got enough quality to stay in the league."
