Pardew's side are sixth on the English Premier League table, two points back from fifth-placed Chelsea, who occupy the only Europa League qualification berth.

Arsenal sit fourth, five points ahead of Newcastle and inside the Champions League qualification places.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle, one of the early season front runners, can force their way back into the top five.

But regardless of where they ultimately finish, Pardew knows a victory for his team at the Emirates Stadium on Monday will throw the race for European qualification wide open.

"I don't think Arsenal is the game that's really going to determine whether we get a European position," he said.

"But in terms of really unsettling the pack, in terms of the Champions League pack, it would go some way if we won.

"Obviously, it would put Chelsea back into a favourable position, (as well as) Liverpool and ourselves.

"I think that's what we're really going to focus on, and the other 10 games for us will be about securing a Europa League place if we can."
