Busacca booked two Bafana Bafana players and, in an incident late on, sent off Itumeleng Khune and awarded Uruguay a penalty after the South Africa goalkeeper tripped Luis Suarez in front of goal.

Diego Forlan scored from the resulting penalty to make it 2-0 and all but ended the host nation's hopes of getting anything out of the game.

Coach Parreira said he was "very angry and very disappointed in the referee'', adding that the referee "probably doesn't deserve to be here".

But FIFA have let the Brazilian off the hook.

"Yes, we have looked at it and no elements have been found by the disciplinary committee to open an investigation," spokesman Nicolas Maingot said. "This is because there was no violation of the FIFA disciplinary code."

Defeat means South Africa could become the first World Cup hosts to be eliminated at the group stages.

FIFA will reserve any judgments of a possible impact the exit of the hosts may have on the competition until it actually happens.

World Cup organising chief Danny Jordaan this morning called what happened a "night of pain", but was adamant it will not have an effect on how the competition will be supported by South Africans.

FIFA echoed those sentiments, with spokesman Nicolas Maingot saying: "I think I would like to join our comments to those made by the LOC (Local Organising Committee).

"We would also like to add that the group stage is not finished. There is one game to play tonight in the group, there are two games left in a few days.

"So definitely we would like to urge all South Africans to get behind this event as they have been so much since the beginning."

Maingot also called on any sceptics to look at ticket sale numbers as proof of the support shown by locals.

He added: "We have seen that (the support of the World Cup) when it has come to ticketing. We have to say that 75% of the tickets have been sold to South African fans.

"They have also been moving across the cities to celebrate the occasion. Not only in the stadiums, but all over their enthusiasm can be seen.

"Together with the international fans, you can see what kind of atmosphere is happening here, which is wonderful."
