FORMER Sydney FC goalkeeper Justin Pasfield knows the battle for Olympic selection is really hotting up but may have overcooked his pursuit for a spot.
With a huge question mark hanging over Danny Vukovic’s participation in Beijing, there is an opening for someone to step up to the plate.
Tando Velaphi and Dean Bouzanis are two possible replacements with Pasfield also on Graham Arnold’s radar.
The Wollongong FC custodian, who also had a brief spell at Queensland Roar last season, spent two days at the AIS last week for a gruelling series of tests and intensive training sessions.
He returned to play for his club against Manly United in the New South Wales Premier League at the weekend but collapsed during the game with heat exhaustion.
Pasfield was able to continue and has since visited a doctor just to make sure everything is as it should be.
He told the Illawara Mercury today: “I had never had anything like that happen to me before.
“It was the scariest moment of my life, I don’t know why it happened.
“All I can think is it must have been the intense training we did at the AIS, it must have all caught up with me at once.”
The former Qantas Under 20 international is expected to be included in the Wollongong side to face Sydney United at Edensor Park on Sunday.
