SYDNEY’S samba star striker Patrick is facing potentially season-ending surgery after damaging his knee – but it won’t mean an early start for new signing Michael Bridges.

Patrick has been building up a lethal strike partnership with fellow hitman Alex Brosque at the business end of Sydney’s attack.
But the club revealed today the Brazilian had missed training this week to undergo scans – and could need surgery.
“Patrick is a concern,” revealed coach Branko Culina today. “He’s having scans today to determine the outcome of his injury.
“It doesn’t look good if it’s what I think it is, problems with his meniscus. He’ll probably play the next week or two with pain then he’ll be more than likely forced to go through with surgery.”
The news comes as new replacement player Michael Bridges, 29, joins the club on loan to replace crocked US import Michael Enfield who is also out with a knee injury for the rest of the season.
The former $12million Sunderland and Leeds striker turns up in Sydney tomorrow to join the club, but Culina warned he would not be walking into the side straight away.
“He’s got to get a visa and secondly you want to do the right thing by the player and the players we’ve got,” said Culina.
“He’s in good nick and good condition which is why we got him but we don’t want to put him in at the deep end.
“Have a look at the weather – it’s not easy going from the midteens in the UK to the mid 30s.”
