Reid, 32, has completed his short-term injury replacement contract with A-League finals hopeful Melbourne Heart and now is in Bangkok with Thai Premier League side INSEE Police United.

There he’ll be reunited with Australian coach Phil Stubbins who recently took over the job at United.

The former Reds assistant coach left the caretaker role at the AIS earlier this year for the opportunity to coach a senior team in South-East Asia - one of fast-improving regions in the AFC.

The pair was key in the Reds’ run to the ACL final four years ago and now they hope to have more success in Asia.

“I jumped at the chance,” Reid told au.foufourtwo.com from Bangkok. "I rated Phil very highly as a coach and as a person when I was in Adelaide.

"We always said that we hoped our paths would cross in the future, and here we are.

“My understanding is that Police United have a very talented young squad that could benefit from my experience. I enjoy dictating play from the middle and organising things.

“Just keeping things ticking along, making sure the ball is kept moving and that people are in the right positions.”

Thai football is clearly improving, evidenced by their recent form on the international stage.

Stars such as Datsakorn Thongloa and Teerasil Dangda impressed in recent World Cup qualifiers while former Melbourne Victory favourite Surat Sukha remains an important player for Thailand.

And in recent seasons the high-profile signings of Robbie Fowler as well as Zesh Rehman have given the TPL a major boost.

“There have been some big steps taken in Thai football in recent times,” added Reid, a former Brighton and Hove Albion player who won the old NSL with Wollongong in 2000.

“Nearly all of their national team players play in the league, so it’s obviously a decent level.

“I’ve played in Asia before in the Asian Champions League and World Club Cup, so I know what to expect in terms of climate and style of play."
