Sydney FC goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne was his side's star in the 2-0 loss to Arsenal and admits the match was an "eye opener".
The much maligned shot-stopper, who almost joined Arsenal as a teenager, made a series of first-half saves to keep the Sky Blues in the contest.
Redmayne, 28, also produced a penalty save from Danny Welbeck's 56th minute spotkick.

"We want to test ourselves against the best and tonight we did that," Redmayne told SBS.
"We'll learn some things but it was also a fantastic experience to play against the calibre of those players."

Sydney only commenced pre-season last week, following last season's A-League double.
"We're only a couple of weeks in, much like Arsenal as well," Redmayne said.
"It's an eye opener."
Sky Blues winger David Carney said the game was an invaluable experience for the side's youngsters.
"Obviously Arsenal are one of the best teams in the world," Carney said.
"We changed the team a lot over the two halves. It's a great expeirence for the young ones to play against some of the world's best players.
"I thought they all done well, everyone played their part, got fitness out of the game, it's hard when you've only been in training for a week."
