AUSSIE teenager Massimo Luongo made his Tottenham first-team debut overnight before missing the decisive spotkick in Spurs' 7-6 penalty shootout defeat to Stoke City in the Carling Cup.
The young midfielder, who turns 19 on Sunday, came off the bench as a 71st-minute substitute for Spurs replacing Brazilian Sandro.
The Australia youth international did well on six minutes into extra-time when he got away from Stoke defender Ryan Shotton before squaring for Roman Pavlyuchenko who shot wide from a difficult angle.
The game ended goalless after 120 minutes before the dreaded penalty shootout which saw 15 spotkicks taken before Luongo stepped up.
The Sydney-raised Australia youth international saw his effort saved by Stoke's Danish keeper Tomas Sorensen, sending the Potters through.
After the game, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said: "Luongo's okay. He would not have had to take one if Pavlyuchenko had scored. I thought it took a lot of bottle to stand up and take one."
