Peru skipper Paolo Guerrero has been banned for a year and will miss the 2018 World Cup after testing positive for cocaine.
Guerrero was provisionally suspended by FIFA on November 3 after testing positive for cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine.
The striker is banned from football until November 3, 2018, meaning he will sit out the World Cup and miss his country's clash with Australia in Sochi.
A statement released by FIFA on Friday said Guerrero had violated Article 6 of the governing body's anti-doping regulations, thus contravening Article 63 of the FIFA disciplinary code.
The 33-year-old was tested after Peru's World Cup qualifier against Argentina on October 5 in Buenos Aires.
The former Hamburg and Bayern Munich forward debuted for Peru in 2004 and has scored 32 goals in 86 international appearances.
Guerrero is La Blanquirroja's all-time goalscorer and two years ago was nominated for the FIFA Ballon d'Or, becoming the first Peruvian football player to receive that honour.
He joined Brazilian club Flamengo in 2015 and this season he has banged in eight goals in 27 matches.
