MICHAEL Petkovic is eyeing a final day date with fellow Socceroo Harry Kewell as he bids to wrestle the Turkish title away from Istanbul.
The Socceroos goalkeeper is enjoying a tremendous season in the Turkish Super Lig with Sivasspor and they currently sit top of the table, a point clear of Besiktas.
As the season enters the home straight, the club will buck a historical trend if it can go on to lift the title.
Only once in the last 15 years has a club outside Istanbul lifted the prize. Petkovic is anxious to change that and if the race goes the distance, it will be decided when Kewell's Galatasaray visit on the final day - the current champions.
"Most people in Turkey are going for us. Obviously we are not one of the big Istanbul teams and it would be great for the league if a team besides the big three won.
"We are going into each game like its our last. We are giving it all our best," Petkovic told TurkishPress.com.
The keeper says the players don't feel under any particular pressure and perhaps benefit from not being a squad packed full of big names.
"All the players are quite relaxed, we're still enjoying training every day, enjoying going out and winning."
He has drawn a strong group of players. We are not all superstars but we fight for each other," he said.
