Martin O'Neill's side were thumped 7-1 at Stamford Bridge - their first defeat in the Barclays Premier League of 2010 - and now hopes of securing a Champions League spot are fading.

But Villa still have a chance of landing their first silverware for 14 years as they look to go one better than last month's Carling Cup final defeat against Manchester United.

Petrov said: "I don't think what happened against Chelsea on Saturday will have a bearing on the semi-final because it will be a different game.

"I would be great to think we could beat them at Wembley and clinch a place in our second final of the season.

"Losing the Carling Cup final was a massive disappointment, particularly after going in front so early in the game

"But we are determined to put that behind us by reaching the FA Cup final.

"On Saturday, a few decisions went against us that could have gone our way but that's the way football goes.

"At the moment, it's not going for us although, before then, our only defeat this year was in the Carling Cup final.

"Chelsea are always on top of their game and I think we will be a different side in the semi-final."

O'Neill is hoping that a break from mid-week action will allow a quintet of players to recover for Saturday's trip to Bolton.

James Milner, Emile Heskey and Richard Dunne (all Achilles), Gabriel Agbonlahor (foot) and John Carew (back) are all battling to be fully fit for the Reebok Stadium clash.
