WELLINGTON Phoenix owner Terry Serepisos wants to bring one of the English Premier League's big hitters to Westpac Stadium.
Wellington have had offers from several clubs to stage friendly/pre-season matches but the New Zealanders are wary of locking themselves into a fixture that might fail to get bums on seats.
David Beckham's LA Galaxy pulled in the crowds for Sydney in 2007 but flopped in Auckland. If there is to be another sparkling fixture for Phoenix then the club insists only the best will do.
Serepisos told the Sunday News: "I'd like to bring a Premier League team here and there has been talk with Everton and Fulham but we want one of the big boys so we can guarantee filling the stadium.
"We need a Liverpool, a Chelsea, a Man United - we need a brand. There's been talks to arrange a game this year but nothing's concrete."
Serepisos also confirmed that he is in it for the long haul with Phoenix, remaining full of belief that his team can one day lift the A-League championship.
