WELLINGTON Phoenix owner Terry Serepisos has beaten five other candidates to become New Zealand TV's answer to Donald Trump as the host of the Kiwi version of The Apprentice.
The reality-TV show, an international hit with Trump as host in the US and Spurs owner Sir Alan Sugar the UK version host, pits teams of aspiring entrepreneurs against each other.
The show will be based in Auckland, but it will travel around the country - starting with filming of Serepisos at the All Whites' crucial World Cup qualifier against Bahrain on November 14 in Wellington.
The news is a feather in the cap for the A-League and Serepisos, who is estimated to be worth around $140m. The Kiwi businessman and football fan is in Sydney this weekend to watch his team Phoenix take on the sky blues in the A-League.
Serepisos may have had his Apprentice gig confirmed but is still waiting on the FFA to give his club an assurance about their future in the A-League.
Despite owning a stable, well-run club which has continued to sign players beyond its current licence agreement, the club's future still remains somewhat of a mystery.
"Terry Serepisos has sat everyone down and made it clear that he's here and we're here for the long haul," Phoenix CEO Tony Pignata told this website two weeks ago.
"We've spoken to Ben Buckley and Archie Fraser and obviously we just want to get the licence situation resolved and push forward."
