Maradona looked on as his team were crushed 4-0 by Germany in the World Cup quarter-finals and Phoenix are hoping to cheer him up with a seat at Westpac Stadium on July 23.
"We had the thought a while ago," Phoenix interim chief executive Nathan Greenham told the Dominion Post.
"We weren't too sure as to how realistic it was so, when the promoters came over from Singapore recently as representatives of Boca, we thought, 'Gee, let's see if this has got any traction.'
"That was a week ago and we've sent an official invite for Diego Maradona to come out and see what's happening with football in New Zealand and come along to the Boca Juniors game as well.
"We're not sure, realistically, whether it will happen but, given their exit, perhaps it will have a little more traction."
Maradona enjoyed two stints with Boca during his career. As for the home side, Phoenix are expected to include all the All Whites heroes in their squad.
