EXCLUSIVE: Wellington Phoenix are cracking down on club discipline problems with the players summoned to a pre-training meeting tomorrow morning.
The New Zealanders have seen both Manny Muscat and Ben Sigmund suspended in recent weeks for off-the-ball incidents with the team also charged with misconduct after the A-League defeat in Brisbane.
Muscat was hit with a ban for a stray elbow that connected with Roar youngster Tommy Oar while Sigmund was punished for a clash with Melbourne Victory's Adrian Leijer.
Pignata and coach Ricki Herbert will address the players to stress the importance of on-field discipline.
"Myself and Ricki will just have a chat with the playing group to remind them of their responsibilities to themselves, the club, the fans and the game," Pignata told au.fourfourtwo.com today.
"I don't think we are a team or a club that has had a disciplinary problem to be honest. It's just a question, as I said, of reminding the players.
"These guys are role models for youngsters and it's important to remember that."
Pignata has spoken to the FFA about both incidents and fully backs the governing body's stance on discipline.
On a happier note, Pignata said anticipation was building for the club's 'home' game against Sydney FC in Palmerston North on Saturday.
He added: "It is a great opportunity to take the Phoenix name to another area and if we could get a crowd of over 10,000 that would be fantastic."
