A trip down memory lane before this weekend's A-League grand final.
The 2015 A-League grand final will take place this Sunday at AAMI Park, with the Melbourne Victory taking on Sydney FC. The two teams that sparked the A-League into action way back in 2005, when an Archie Thompson goal for the Victory cancelled out a Dwight Yorke header for the Sky Blues, will now meet ten years on in the biggest Big Blue of them all.
The stats don’t lie; across ten years, this game has produced 99 goals in 70 fixtures, as well as some of the biggest moments in A-League history. There have been a couple of thrashings, incredible comebacks, late drama ... and a shootout when even Kevin Muscat missed.
Perhaps it is only fitting that, after the first decade of the A-League, the two biggest clubs in Australian football will go head-to-head for the biggest prize the game has to offer.
