SOCCEROOS boss Pim Verbeek is certain star Harry Kewell will be fit to play Germany in Australia’s World Cup opener on June 14 - but will miss the farewell game against New Zealand.
Speaking at the Johnny Warren Football Foundation gala dinner on Monday night, the Dutchman was confident he would have the Galatasaray star against the Germans.
Speculation has mounted Kewell's groin injury, which has kept him out for most of the year, will keep him from taking the pitch in Durban.
But Verbeek is certain Kewell will take his place.
"I am one hundred per cent confident they (the medical staff) can do the job and Harry will be ready," said Verbeek.
"He left his family in England and came earlier than anybody else and it says enough about what Harry's willing to do."
But the 31-year-old will not play in Monday's farewell game against the Kiwis.
"He's not ready for the New Zealand game I can tell you now straight on," said Verbeek. "He will be ready when we start the World Cup against Germany and that's all that matters."
Verbeek said Kewell was training three times a day.
"He had a morning session training, he had an afternoon session training, he was in the swimming pool at five o'clock in the afternoon, he's training three times a day," said Verbeek.
The outgoing boss revealed the squad was already training together, ahead of the tomorrow's official start to the training camp.
"Most of my players are here already and we start already training," he said.
He said the Socceroos had drawn a "tough group" and added he thought Germany would not in full flight in the opening game, Ghana was unpredictable and Serbia remained an unknown.
He laid praise on the team spirit in the squad and said he was prepared for the "biggest event" a worldwide coach can reach.
